Cheap extra “internal” storage

ImageYesterday I posted the ultimate upgrade if you wanted more storage and speed. But what if you just want storage space, and want to haul around USB sticks and have dem occupy your USB slots. The answer is simple, buy the Nifty MiniDrive.

The MiniDrive is the elegant solution to a stupid design choice by Apple. The SD card slot cannot contain the whole SD card and thereby the SD card will be damaged, if not removed from the SD slot before throwing your MacBook in your bag.

The Nifty MiniDrive is out of stock at the moment but an even cheaper alternative is available at Amazone.

More storage, more speed, more possibilities

Just wanted to share this very cool combo upgrade for the MacBook Pro Retina. Lots of people don’t want to buy the MacBook Retina because they think its storage i fixed for life. However that’s not the real truth, they just use a proprietor mSATA connector for the internal SSD.

So if your running low on storage on your Macbook Retina. OWC gives you a larger, faster SSD and gives you an external ssd case for your old sdd.

Stupid TAB-Complete

As a long time PC user, the “prompt” or “Terminal” in OS X is the place to be if you wanna get thing done, the easy way. However I soon discovered that the TAB-Complete, which I used a lot in the Windows environment, didn’t work… well… not as I expected anyways, so when  I wanted to type “cd somefolder” and typed “cd some[TAB]”, nothing happened.

Now to fix this, I found this little neat trick, (in the Terminal offcause) type:

nano .inputrc

paste the following:
set completion-ignore-case on
set show-all-if-ambiguous on
TAB: menu-complete

Save the file by pressing Control-O (then press Enter)
Quit the nano editor, by pressing Control-X

Now it works just like in Windows…

Hello World

In this blog I’ll be sharing my thoughts as a 20 year PC user, switching to the Apple world. Whenever I find a neat trick, cool hidden feature, or just want to rant, you will be the first to know.
